This historical arabesque print is adapted from Émile Prisse d’Avennes’s 19th-century study of Islamic art and architecture in Cairo. The original plates were created through close observation and careful drawing, translating architectural ornament, tilework, and decorative surfaces into a detailed visual record. Rather than removing elements from the buildings themselves, Prisse and his collaborators recreated the designs for study, preserving their pattern, proportion, and color in print.
Title: Arabesques : faïences murales : du tékyeh des derwiches (XVIIe siècle)
Translation: Arabesques: Wall Tiles from the Dervishes’ Tekke, 17th Century
A red-and-blue upper border gives this plate structure and contrast, while the repeating floral field below creates a quieter rhythm in soft green, ivory, and blue.
Each Endicott & Co. print is carefully prepared from historical source material, with the character and detail of the original preserved in the restoration. The artwork is thoughtfully proportioned and offered in standard frame sizes for straightforward display.
Materials: Archival matte paper, 230 gsm
Sizes refer to the unframed artwork. Each print includes a built-in border for a clean, matted look. No additional mat is required. Standard frame sizes fit easily. Framing will add to the final dimensions.
Frames and interiors are shown for context only.
