Berenice Abbott’s Blossom Restaurant, 103 Bowery comes from her Changing New York project, which documented New York during a period of rapid urban transformation. Abbott fills the frame with hand-painted menus, storefront lettering, a striped barber pole, and figures gathered at the entrance, creating a dense portrait of street-level life on the Bowery.
The photograph is as much about graphic detail as place: prices, painted signs, windows, and architectural edges compete for attention while the people at the center give the scene immediacy. The result is a vivid record of everyday commercial life, preserved through Abbott’s precise eye for composition.
Each Endicott & Co. print is carefully prepared from historical source material, with the character and detail of the original preserved in the restoration. The artwork is thoughtfully proportioned and offered in standard frame sizes for straightforward display.
Materials: Solid pinewood frame with a matte black finish and shatter-resistant plexiglass. Satin-finish photo paper, 260 gsm. Finished with a protective backing, pre-installed hanging hardware, and discreet rubber bumpers to protect the wall and keep the piece level.
Sizes refer to the artwork dimensions. The finished framed piece will be slightly larger.
Frames and interiors are shown for context only. Frame style and scale may vary slightly by size.
This fine art print is reproduced from high-resolution archival scans preserved in The New York Public Library Digital Collections.
