Berenice Abbott’s Gas Station, Tremont Street, The Bronx comes from her Changing New York project, which documented New York during a period of rapid urban transformation. Abbott frames the station as a dense arrangement of pumps, signs, utility lines, and roadside structures, with the repeated Texaco emblems giving the image a strong graphic rhythm.
The photograph turns an everyday commercial site into a study of modern infrastructure and visual communication. Bold lettering, circular signs, and upright pumps create a layered composition that reflects the growing presence of automobile culture in the city.
Each Endicott & Co. print is carefully prepared from historical source material, with the character and detail of the original preserved in the restoration. The artwork is thoughtfully proportioned and offered in standard frame sizes for straightforward display.
Materials: Satin-finish paper, 210 gsm
Sizes refer to the unframed artwork. Each print includes a built-in border for a clean, matted look. No additional mat is required. Standard frame sizes fit easily. Framing will add to the final dimensions.
Frames and interiors are shown for context only.
This fine art print is reproduced from high-resolution archival scans preserved in The New York Public Library Digital Collections.
