Berenice Abbott’s Manhattan Bridge, Walkway comes from her Changing New York project, which documented New York during a period of rapid urban transformation. From the pedestrian walkway, Abbott turns the bridge’s steel trusses, suspension cables, and towers into a tightly ordered composition of repeating lines and receding perspective.
The structure dominates the frame, while a handful of pedestrians give the image a human scale. Strong contrasts of light and shadow emphasize the bridge’s industrial geometry and draw the eye toward the distant city beyond.
Each Endicott & Co. print is carefully prepared from historical source material, with the character and detail of the original preserved in the restoration. The artwork is thoughtfully proportioned and offered in standard frame sizes for straightforward display.
