A hand-colored plate from Thomas Say’s American Entomology, published in the early nineteenth century. The composition shows the butterfly from two views, including one at rest on a leafy stem, set against a quiet open ground. Warm orange wings edged in black and dotted with pale markings create a strong focal point, while the fine linework and restrained presentation retain the clarity of early natural history illustration.

The balanced composition makes this work especially well suited to a grouping with other plates from the series.

Each Endicott & Co. print is carefully prepared from historical source material, with the character and detail of the original preserved in the restoration. The artwork is thoughtfully proportioned and offered in standard frame sizes for straightforward display.

Materials: Archival matte paper, 230 gsm

Sizes refer to the unframed artwork. Each print includes a built-in border for a clean, matted look. No additional mat is required. Standard frame sizes fit easily. Framing will add to the final dimensions.

Frames and interiors are shown for context only.
