Priscilla Susan Bury’s Pancratium amancaes comes from A Selection of Hexandrian Plants, Belonging to the Natural Orders Amaryllidæ and Liliacæ (1831–1834). The plate presents two yellow blooms above a cluster of long, arching leaves, with the flower heads held on a tall central stem against an open ground. The restrained composition keeps attention on the plant’s elongated form, vivid color, and delicate floral structure.
The measured presentation makes this work especially well suited to a grouping with other botanical plates from the series.
