Berenice Abbott’s Pike and Henry Streets comes from her Changing New York project, a photographic record of the city during a period of profound urban change. In this Lower East Side view, rows of tenement buildings and fire escapes frame the street while the Manhattan Bridge rises in the distance, bringing older residential architecture into direct visual dialogue with the city’s modern infrastructure.
Abbott’s careful vantage point gives the photograph both depth and immediacy. Pedestrians, automobiles, storefronts, and the dense rhythm of the surrounding buildings preserve a view of everyday New York while the bridge anchors the composition beyond them.
Each Endicott & Co. print is carefully prepared from historical source material, with the character and detail of the original preserved in the restoration. The artwork is thoughtfully proportioned and offered in standard frame sizes for straightforward display.
Materials: Satin-finish paper, 210 gsm
Sizes refer to the unframed artwork. Each print includes a built-in border for a clean, matted look. No additional mat is required. Standard frame sizes fit easily. Framing will add to the final dimensions.
Frames and interiors are shown for context only.
This print is reproduced from high-resolution archival scans preserved in The New York Public Library Digital Collections.
